WMUR-TV reported the announcement by State officials on Tuesday which stated that the new driver’s licenses and state-issued ID cards will feature a new and more colorful background design.

The new ID cards will contain the profile of the “Old Man of the Mountain.” For those who don’t know, this is an iconic, face-like profile in the mountain that fragmented and crumbled to the ground about 15 years ago. Additional the new cards will feature a purple lilac (New Hampshire’s official flower), an outline of the state as well as a few other new security features.

Elizabeth Bielecki, Department of Motor Vehicles Director, stated that customers will not need to acquire the new ID right away. They can wait until their regular license renewal date approaches. The phase-in process for the new cards will require no additional action or costs to those who would like to upgrade their ID.
