Signs That It’s Time for New ID Cards

Signs That It's Time for New ID CardsNo matter how well employees care for and protect their ID cards, they will inevitably need to be replaced. So, how do you know when the time is right? Here are a few signs that it’s time to go ahead and upgrade your company ID cards.

1) Damaged Cards

This one is pretty much a given. When cards become damaged, they will obviously need to be replaced. This is especially the case when it comes to technology cards. When employees are needing to swipe or scan their card for access control or attendance, they will be unable to follow the proper protocol with a damaged card.

Here is a list of common card damage:

  • Peeling lamination around the edge of the card.
  • Bubbles underneath a layer of lamination.
  • Cracks near the hole punch.
  • Printed information separating from the card’s surface.

2) Scratched Text & Unrecognizable Photos

These areas are often the easiest to spot and are the first signs of a withering card. It may not be important from employee to employee but this is a big turn off to customers. Customers do care about the presentation and an employee with a scrappy looking ID card sends a certain message. It tells them that you lack intention and don’t care about the details. Well, guess what? Customers care about the details.

3) Employees Stop Wearing their ID Cards

An occasional missing ID card isn’t a big deal. We all mistakenly leave our card at home from time to time. But, if you’re noticing a trend, it’s worth digging a little deeper on the issue. If a lot of your employees are “leaving their card at home,” it could signify a couple of issues.

They lost their card and worry about the consequences.

It’s not uncommon for employees to feel worried after losing their card due to fear of consequences associated with a lost badge. Especially when they are not frequently checked, they may simply default to saying “I left it at home again…” There may be more to the story.
