CR8030 Cards: What Does it Really Mean?If you’re on the search for the right ID card solutions for your organization, you have likely seen the CR8030 card option. What does this mean exactly? CR8030 is the specified size of the card and it basically means that it’s the same dimensions as a credit card. But, let’s go into a little more detail to give you more clarity.

What Does CR8030 Really Means?

The CR80 portion of this size category refers to cards that carry the dimensions of 85.60 × 53.98 mm (3.370 × 2.125 in) and offer rounded corners with a radius of 2.88–3.48 mm. Originally, there were also CR90 and CR100 card options, however these are essential no longer in existence.

The “30” portion of the size category refers to the thickness of the card. The thickness is measured in what is called “mil.” This does not refer to millimeters as it might seem. The mil terminology is actually in reference to a measurement that is equal to 0.001 inch. In other words, a 30 mil card is 0.030 inches in thickness (3/100 in).
